Chapter one: The Domain

Fog filled the forest and surrounded the house. Mist in which the Elder man could still see the stars from his rocking chair, humming too& fro.
“John you should come in dear, its time for bed.” He nodded and stayed. All was settled; he continued to gaze upwards in awe. How beautiful the night time sky is in the dead of winter. Back bent and weary eyes; he leaned into the pillar and slowly headed in. With the pipe in the cupboard, john and his wife were soon in midnight’s slumber. Tomorrow was a new leaf.
Behind the house, a star seemed to fall from the sky. Without so much a ceremony, the silent star was almost deafening. The Elder man half asleep, stirred. Finally he awoke to the sound of scratching at the far side of the room. Bethinking it nothing more than a tree branch, he dozed again. The sound soon persisted, but echoed much closer. This time out of nosiness, his curiosity got the better of him.By morning no one could find him.

The ramblings of absent minds in a coffee house as she dropped her candy and they laughed. Yes she was nervous. It was a small town after all with small dwellings and sporadic farmlands. Mountains she’d only read about in books and lots of new faces.
The radio in the background while others quietly read the paper, the comings and goings of many walks of life. Little did they know, the little woman in the corner, yes the one by the window. A book in one hand and the purse in the other curled up in a chair. The man behind the counter looked at her and went about his ways. She knew everyone but little did they know of her. Broke and starving, she was not deterred. Petite and cinnamon brown hair, she smiled even as the rain began to fall& the men who renovated her “house” came in for lunch. Laughing, eating & texting, she turned her face out of anxiousness. How boldly they spoke and she fidgeted. Still they did not know…….. All they knew of was some man had disappeared.
